He dumped me for his ex and is now calling. What should I do.?

Okay so me and my ex-bf where platonic friends for three years before we dated for a month. He had just gotten out of a seven year on and off again relationship and in retrospect I now see that we moved into a relationship WAY to fast. Anyway he broke up with me stating him and his ex had been communicating and he didnt want to get me into the middle of anything. He wanted to remain friends (as friends we communicated everyday) but I thought it would be to much for me and told him I needed to step away from the friendship for awhile and ceased all communication (no text or phone calls.) So after a month of no communication (i did see him once at church) he calls me this past weekend to see what's up with me. What could be his reasoning? And no we have never slept together so it wasnt for a call.
