How do I accept older male friend's conventions?

I'm 58, boyfriend of 2.5 years is 61. He is in a business that requires sometimes going to conventions. These conventions are held in a different city each time they come along, usually in the spring and fall. This year in May it will be held in Miami. This will probably be a 3 day event. Supposedly spouses and g/f's, or b/f's are not allowed to go. Yet this is both men and women, and these conventions consist of going to high cl restaurants and having banquets in fancy ball rooms of high cl hotels where they all stay. I have tried hard to deal with this, but each time it comes along, I become upset. I have tried to no avail to get a clear answer as to why I cannot go and just stay in his room and not attend the dinners or the actual convention, but at least just be invited to be with him, because he has a room that would easily accommodate me. Am I being unreasonable?
