Here's a hypothetical situation: in the not-too-distant future, global warming wreaks havoc on the earth, causing hordes of people to flee to the mountains, where they face a grueling existence with no fresh water or food. Hideous diseases start to multiply, but no humanitarian aid is available. Then some humanoid lifeforms start to evolve, which heralds the dawn of a new era. Ideally, this will not happen, and we'll find that global warming is just a hoax.
